They may be facing a critical crossroads or in need of direction. A spiritual director leads the organization through a discernment process, including reflections, prayer, and meditation. As the group makes decisions, spiritual directors are available to observe meetings. The director will then share their organizational observations and reflections. When businesses, ministries, congregations, and communities use spiritual direction services, the entire group is considered the client. Focus remains on the whole body seeking God’s will. Clients will also experience profound shifts through guided meditation, prayer, creative expression (music, painting, dance, spoken word), and community. Many groups find it to be an incredibly moving experience. Specialized topics include mental health, bereavement, addiction, dependency, body image, coping and healing, healthy relationships, self-esteem, and regaining identity. Individuals may sign up for group sessions on these specialized topics and assembled groups are welcome. The session usually begins in silent prayer as both the spiritual director and client collect themselves in the presence of God. Together, the client and spiritual director explore where God is present and what God’s invitation to the client may be. Spiritual direction is an excellent practice for becoming more aware of God’s presence, for savoring the goodness in your life, and for sorting out difficult life situations and choices (discernment).
